Dan Wesson 2011 - Perhaps one of the coolest guns to come out of Shot Show 2020 was Dan Wesson's new DWX Compact 9mm. In late 2019, Dan Wesson released the DWX pistol in 9mm, based on the 1911 slide in the CZ 75 frame. It may seem like a crazy idea at first, but there is it means more as time goes on when I look at the positives. With 2020 here, Dan Wesson decided to introduce a smaller version of the DWX.

The DWX Compact is a 2011 hybrid pistol based on the 1911 slide on the compact CZ 75 frame. It has a 4 inch match barrel and holds 15 rounds. The forearm molds to the shooter's hand when holding the gun, and giving the weapon a more natural and natural look. Unloaded, the DWX Compact weighs 28.5 ounces with an ambidextrous thumb drive. The gun felt very well balanced in my hand and is a great addition to the DWX family. A picatinny rail allows accessories such as a weapon light or laser device to be attached to the weapon.

One feature of the full size and compact DWX is that it requires a 1911 trigger unit. This makes the trigger feel so smooth and testing it, you can tell it's a 1911 trigger. There was very little trigger pull and it broke on the specified wall. I think the trigger pull is around the 4 pound mark, but don't tell me about it. Currently the MSRP for the complete DWX and DWX Compact is $1,799.

I had a chance to play and watch DWX for about an hour yesterday. My first impression of the gun was that it was an option NOT to carry unless one wanted to shell out the money for something like the Wilson Compact EDC 9. The value you get for this pistol is amazing along with the overall fit and finish. As high as it feels. The compact and full size DWX will probably be the guns I buy for road testing, so let me know what you think and want to know about the DWX. I am an avid shooter and passionate about education, both in my profession and in the shooting community. I'm an average Joe who really enjoys talking to other people about guns and other needs. Dan Wesson makes a 1911 for the market. Most of my products I give the highest such as Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Les Baer and others. The crazy thing is that the MSRP is usually 33% to 50% less than the Dan Wesson. In 2014 I got my hands on and reviewed the DW Valor and loved it. But I didn't buy it because I wanted a smaller pizza. But with the release of Discretion ready to disappoint - what is the better part of Valor? - Found my new 1911. . .

Looking at this Valor review, I went into a lot of detail about the suitability of high end 1911s and how buyers are looking for tight tolerances, and how they pay for their dollar and reliability. this. Also, I thought Dan Wesson was great here. I recommend reading the first part of this review for more information, but the short version is that Dan Wesson left the company in what I feel is a wonderful place. They are very hot, but they work well. But more on discretionary customization later.

Here it is, in this case, loaded with two 10-round magazines - my take on the 9mm! - Barrel cap, barrel key, owner's manual, warranty information and Dan Wesson tag. The thread guard is installed from the factory and I don't know what the noise was when this photo was taken.

It's purposefully missing from this one though, showing off the extended, threaded barrel. That's half of what makes the Discreet "accessory-ready," whether you choose one in .45 ACP or 9×19, like the example I show here.

Another trick to achieving true elimination-ready status is the high visibility you should see on the elimination shell. The rear Trijicon sports a horizontal axis with minimal glare, a tritium dot inserted under the dot (for accurate eight-way alignment) and a vertical front sight so it can be used for maneuvering.

Between these high points, the flat top slide is serrated. Like installing on the rear sight, it helps to reduce the glare.

Further down we find a custom M1913 Picatinny accessory rail on the front of the forged steel frame.

On the other hand, the only marking on the slide is the model name - "Discretion" engraved above the slide stop. Again, I really appreciate how Dan Wesson maintains the "Old Philly Pages". They avoided turning their videos into billboards, as many other manufacturers do.

Of course, these giant pieces of cloth aren't so subtle. It's a big aesthetic departure from the rest of the Dan Wesson line, and I can't seem to decide if I like it or not. Of the ones I've asked, it works about 50/50.

Many will argue that this is more than just aesthetics, and that lightening the slide can reduce the feeling of recoil and compensate for the additional bolt-on part of the suppressor. For those who like front-end animations for manipulation, rejoice. These giant slots offer great buys.

We lower the pistol again, we go to the trigger. It's a skeleton job by EGW, with a slight curve to its rugged face. These wrinkles look a little rough, but feel good on my fingers. Although this trigger is not externally adjustable for extreme travel, the Dan Wesson is perfect...but more on trigger pull quality later.

Underneath, the front and rear straps are cleanly and thinly stitched at 25 LPI. It's sharp enough to give you an incredible bouquet, but it's also great for all-day comfort.

A fine newspaper cover adorns the underside of the bouquet. It blends in nicely with the frame window and is almost the same width as the stock, so overall it looks like an integral part of the gun.

Going into the details of the fitting part now, the fit of the slide frame is very good from this point of view. Perfect means perfection. The five sides of the door track are perfectly aligned with each other, and all are as flat as a straight edge on a laboratory scale.

Whether the slide is locked back or is barely attached to the rail during assembly, it will not rotate. You hold the slide in one hand and the frame in the other, and with your eyes closed, you might mistake it for solid steel. Unless, of course, you raise the slide backwards, in which case it slides along those rails like oiled glass.

Range Report: Dan Wesson Guardian

Bushing barrel mounts, bushing slide mounts, barrel mounts-sliding mounts, grip protection- and beavertail frame mounts, etc. Both are of high quality. They are again in the sweet spot. They are in the place of the most extreme 1911s, made in the usual way after breaking through 500 or 1,000 rounds and starting to act reliably for the first time.

On the day that prudence came, it was taken to the interior. I loaded two 10-round magazines with easy reloads, sent the target out to 8.33 yards, and chewed through the cartridges with rapid fire. Honestly, I was just looking for a basic feature, wondering if it might be impossible.

He left and couldn't believe how little the group thought about how fast I was shooting. The game-made barrel and excellent accuracy take the Discretion to extremes mechanically, but there are three main things that make the Discretion such a fun shot to practice…

Such a short and flexible trigger makes it easier to hit the gun faster than my skill level. Of course, a gun that shoots smooth and flat makes it easier to stay on your feet and keep those holes popping up quickly on target.

For more information on trigger pulls, we turn to the Dvorak TriggerScan unit, which was used in a recent AR-15 trigger review:

As you can see - the blue line and the highlighted data - there is 0.052 inches of clearance for the trigger shoe. I wish it wasn't there, but it is in 1911 design, and most shooters appreciate it as the first step in preparing the shooter for proper grounding during the break. As you can see from the graph, the discretionary increase is smooth and constant at 1.5 lbs. After that, you will resist cooking until it is 4 kilos. TriggerScan detects ~0.028" directly, but I can't feel it here.
