Daniel Defense Reviews - Sometimes there's nothing like a great factory-built gun. Like most American shooters, my first rifle was an AR-15, and unlike most American shooters, I decided to build every rifle I owned. I have never spent any quality time behind a high end factory gun. Man am I kidding? Sure, my home build works as you would expect, but the Daniel Defense M4A1 Mil Spec+ takes quality to a whole new level.
Daniel Defense sent us one of their Mil Spec+ guns, which means they are done with their Mil Spec+ Cerakote. It makes the gun look really good in my humble opinion. The finish is uniform and seems to be very long-lasting, and it's an FDE type shade. I also like how they match the Cerakote color to the handle and hood.

The first thing I did when I got the gun was check the chamber and was amazed at the bolt action when the charging handle was pulled back. Aside from the slight sizzling noise when you move the bolt over the hammer, there is little resistance, and with the M4A1 you can feel the bolt moving smoothly over the hammer. I know this is not a breaking feature, but I was so impressed that I took the gun back to the dealer and had him feel the bolt gauge. As he pulled back the charging handle, he looked at me and said, "Oh my friend."

A look at the gun's specifications on Daniel Defense's website reveals an impressive list of parts. The M4A1 gives you almost everything you could want in an AR15 carbine, and I think the only thing Daniel Defense missed was an improved charging handle. Considering how many people use a red dot, magnifier, and scope on their ribs, I think this is an imperfection. However, it is an oversight that is easily corrected.

Another thing that I find very annoying is that since Daniel Defense built it with a 14.5″ barrel, it has a light suppressor. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult to change the nozzle device at home. The DD M4A1 is hard pressed for performance. I like the flash hiders they chose, I don't like anything other than the standard A2 birdcage or the QD muzzle device required for suppressors. I found the M4A1 flash hider to have excellent timing and the pins and welds are aesthetically pleasing.
Daniel Defense is installing the M4A1 Rail Interface System (RIS) II on the M4A1. To be honest, I've been lusting after one of the MK18 RIS IIs for my personal SBR for a long time, but it was never in the cards. The rails are very strong and the accessories are firmly attached to each other. It's easy to see why the Department of Defense chose the Daniel safety rail over the solid Knights Armament rail found on most M4 rifles. Daniel Defense even included steel plates made from a material called Santoprene. I don't know what it is, but it feels like a cross between a silicone pot holder and a traditional rubber one.
Daniel Defense Ddm4 Review
Both the rail and the upper receiver have good T-marking, so you can quickly find the same place every time you mount the device.
Upper receiver to lower receiver resolution is nice and tight. All of the parts below are standard Mil-Spec parts and work well without clicking. The trigger is also Mil-Spec, but the feel is better than other standard triggers.
The pistol grip and stock are Daniel Defense designs. They have additional grip panels called Soft Touch Overmolding. I usually don't like rubbers because they get sticky over time and leave residue on my hands. I can't say that this doesn't happen with Daniel's safeties, but the gun I was going to test seemed to stick to the way I found Magpul's MOE+ grips.
The sights provided by Daniel Defense are not standard for a gun, but I wish they were. They are very light, weighing only 2.8 ounces. They have an MSRP of $125 and you can find it here.

In addition to the QD mounting point on the stock, the M4A1 also has a rear QD mounting point.
When I got out, I found the gun to hold well, and at less than 7 pounds, it was a gift to the shoulder. Unfortunately, I was having so much fun shooting metal targets that I forgot to assemble the gun. Some reviewers have reported MOA or sub-MOA accuracy with test and test rifles I have received. The M4A1 went on many trips with me when I had the AR-15 and absorbed about 500 rounds of ammunition.
I liked it so much that when I asked some of my friends if they wanted to go, not a single one refused the free time to start. My friend Randy was the first to take the beast. After returning the gun, he asked, "Where do I order it?" Many questions arose. Randy seemed content with his time behind the gun.
Then I gave the gun to my friend Alex's son. He had just celebrated his 21st birthday, and in 1911 he traveled the same distance as us in his new car, which he had bought for himself as a birthday present. Alex wanted to shoot a nice AR-15, so I loaded it and gave him the gun. Also, a few questions about the gun.

When all is said and done, the Daniel Defense M4A1 Mil Spec+ turns out to be a great gun. Half a dozen times and about 500 times down the throat, I've never had a single handicap. I liked it so much that I plan to order their MK18 Mil Spec+ rifle for my personal collection if I can afford it. The MSRP of $1949 is steep, but it's worth treating yourself once in a while. If you are looking for a premium AR-15 or AR-15 parts, I suggest you check out Daniel Defense's offerings on their website. Daniel Defense is a well-known manufacturer of high-end firearms, but the company came from humble beginnings. What started as a small business manufacturing new rifle parts quickly grew into a full production of high quality AR-15 rifles. Along the way, SOCOM has won several contracts, made some smart money for the company, and the Georgia-based industry leader has made a name for itself in a crowded field where it's hard to stand out.
One of their offerings, the DDM4 V7, an M-LOK rail version of the rifle released in 2016, is the subject of this review. I will warn you, this is not a cheap gun, but it is worth your attention.
When I pulled the DDM4 V7 out of the Daniel Defense gun box, I was already expecting good things. I tend to like a pretty face and the V7 does not disappoint. This gun looks great. A small profile guard with large M-LOK, Daniel Defense's signature curved stem, and its vertical front grip features the highly molded rubber construction most common on round bikes. It was clear that Daniel Defense paid close attention to the key areas where a shooter interacts with his gun.
The stock has a large grip and angle to secure it to the shoulder, as does the cheek piece. (Photo: Sean
