Kronshtadt Class Battlecruiser - "Kronstat" is an advanced Soviet fighter, developed in the mid-1930s. Fans of Soviet battleships will soon be able to take command of the Battle Cruiser Kronstadt when it docks at player ports in the next major update, Danger Zone!

In the 1930s, Soviet shipbuilders worked intensively on designing new warships for the Soviet Navy. One of the priority tasks was the development of a new cruiser capable of countering the 10,000-ton cruisers of other states. By 1935, several design proposals were submitted, none of which received prior approval. The Navy requested a new design, but the signing of a naval agreement with Great Britain in 1937 meant that the requirements collided with another similar design, and ultimately the attempt was soon abandoned.

However, the Navy still sought to build a faster and more powerful counter to the cruisers of other nations, resulting in the development of the battlecruiser Project 69. However, after the Soviet Navy discovered the characteristics of the German Scharnhorst-class battleships, the requirements were already revised up to 26,200-ton ship proved insufficient. This led to another update of the requirements in July 1938, which now called for a 31,000 ton battle cruiser (or "heavy cruiser") with guns and armor. After another series of revisions, the design was approved for construction in the summer of 1939, and the two ships were ordered to be completed by 1943.

Maximilian's Legacy: Interwar And Post World War 2

One of the ordered ships - "Kronstat" - was laid down in Leningrad on November 30, 1939. However, due to production delays, the battleship was estimated to be 10% off by the time German forces began their invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. After the invasion, all further construction work was suspended, part of Kronstadt was later used for fortifications around Leningrad. After the war, it was planned to convert "Kronstat" into an aircraft carrier, but the project was considered outdated, and the proposal was rejected. In 1947, the final decision was made to dismantle and scrap the partially built building.

In War Thunder, the Kronstadt will be the new major ship coming to bolster the Soviet Bluewater fleet as part of the next major update; danger zone Combining powerful firepower and superior mobility, captains will soon have the opportunity to take command of the first battlecruiser to take on the Soviet fleet in the game!

Throughout the complex history of design, Soviet shipbuilders ensured that the "Kronstat" was able to successfully oppose warships of comparable states. The success of this venture is truly shown when the captains notice the Kranshtat's impressive firepower. That is, the ship carries a heavy main battery of nine 12-inch (305 mm) guns mounted on three triple turrets. In gun engagements, the main battery is supported by a total of eight 6-inch (152 mm) guns in two twin turrets located under each side of the ship's bow superstructure. As a result, Kronstadt is capable of dealing with all surface threats that can arise in naval battles.

However, this is not the end of the story, and it is not all Kronstadt weapons. The battleship also has strong anti-aircraft defenses. That is, "Kronstadt" is equipped with four twin 100-mm dual-purpose guns, supplemented by seven more twin 37-mm short-range automatic guns. As a result, the Kronstadt could easily withstand the inevitable air attacks, but the captains could face some difficulties in effectively intercepting enemy aircraft at long distances or at high altitudes. In the latter case, it must be remembered that Kronstadt is a relatively large target, and therefore an ideal target for high-altitude bombers!

This does not mean that Kronstadt is an easy target for the other side to strike and destroy. The Kronstadt propulsion system can produce up to 210,000 horsepower, giving it a top speed of 32 knots (59.2 km/h). Captains who need this mobility are also the reason ships have this capability. At the same time, the armored defense of Kronstadt is a cross between the standards of defense of cruisers and battleships. A 230 mm thick belt and 330 mm thick armor around the conning tower adequately protects the Kronstadt from cruiser fire, but it is somewhat vulnerable to fire from heavier ships such as battleships. Captains are therefore advised to avoid exposure to heavy fire where the ship's surface area is greater, and to make full use of superior mobility.

Kronstadt will soon be docked in player ports as it moves to War Thunder as part of the next major Danger Zone update. In the meantime, keep scanning the horizon for more news as we continue to reveal other exciting new additions that await you in the upcoming update. Until then, calm seas and happy hunting heroes!
