We hear you, but this is why we think you might want to upgrade your Glock barrel.

Best Glock Barrels Guide

Stock Glock barrels use a polygon firing system that is actually more accurate than the average firing system. It also makes it possible to use certain cheaper manufacturing processes, where the savings are passed on to the consumer.

That means they have a disadvantage. They cannot use lead bullets. Glock does not recommend using lead bullets in their factory barrels as the rifle can build up to unsafe levels. That means you spend more on ammo that will work great in your Glock.

Of course, aftermarket barrels have other advantages than just using cast bullets. First, many are threaded, meaning they are ready for dampers, compensators, and muzzle brakes. We love updates on our Glocks, so this is a big deal.

Otherwise, decent quality aftermarket or "add-on" barrels may be more accurate than factory barrels. Glocks are already more than adequate for defense or general shooting. But to really hit the mark and get the most out of the platform, you need something a little better than stock.

Aftermarket Glock barrels are also great for enhancing the look of your weapon. Let's face it, Glocks are certainly solid and reliable, but they leave something to be desired in the looks department.

If you want something a little more stylish, a splash of color or just a slightly different barrel finish is a great way to add a little something extra.

There are many things to consider when choosing a Glock barrel. At the end of the day, customizing your gun is all about taking into account your personal preferences. Here are some considerations you may have.

Best Glock Barrels

First, and absolutely most important, is the caliber. Glocks come in a variety of calibers, so it's important to match the barrel to the caliber of your weapon.

Double Diamond Threaded Barrel

While this is obvious, it is a little less obvious that some Glocks can be easily converted to different calibers simply by changing the barrel and mag. This is usually done to allow the shooter to take advantage of lighter recoil and cheaper cartridges.

If you don't want to change calibers, make sure you buy the correct barrel for your current caliber.

Generally, you want a barrel that matches the factory length of your gun, but there are extended and threaded barrels that are slightly longer for various reasons.

Threaded barrels are longer to accommodate the threads and still allow the muzzle device to extend outside the slide. Obviously you don't benefit from the damper interfering with the slide, so a slightly longer barrel solves that problem.

Other barrels, like some sixteen-inch offerings, may look a little silly, but they're actually designed to keep your Glock from turning into an SBR when you use certain conversion kits.

That's right – there are conversion kits to turn your Glock into a rifle or carbine. Generally, to avoid the tax bill, you won't have a stock or barrel longer than sixteen inches when you convert. Remember to check local, state and federal laws to make sure your refurbished Glock is still on the right side of the line.

If you plan to run a suppressor, compensator, or muzzle, you will need to purchase a threaded barrel. If you're only going to use the muzzle device occasionally, you'll also want a wire protector to keep the wires from getting pulled.

Now, you may not be interested in any of these things, so you may be fine with a non-threaded barrel. These models are slightly cheaper and do not require the same level of protection to prevent thread damage.

But if you think there's a small chance you'll get a suppressor or comp one day, spend the extra $15 and get the threaded model early and you'll save over $100 on the whole thing. later a new barrel.

The factory finish on Glock barrels is called Tennifer and is widely known to be very tough and corrosion resistant. There is also a wide range of aftermarket finish materials, from titanium nitrides to stainless steel.

You can also Cerakote your barrel in literally any color of the rainbow, so you have custom options. Many of these options are offered directly by the manufacturers, so you don't even have to pay for a true custom finish.

Now that you're an expert on what to look for in aftermarket Glock barrels, we want to tell you which ones we recommend and why. These picks are our personal favorites, and we think one of them will be an excellent barrel choice for you and your Glock.
